Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) rose on Monday, gaining 145 points (+1.2%) to close at the 11,914 level. The index opened strong but dipped during the first 22 minutes before steadily climbing again as the day progressed. In general, 19 out of 21 sectors closed in the green zone, and 185 shares rose while 45 fell. Banks (+2.5%), Utilities (+1.6%), and Insurance (+2.1%) sectors contributed the most to the index rise. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (+5.1%), ACWA Power (+1.7%), and Saudi National Bank (+2.0%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed a decrease in volume by -15%, whereas value increased by 13%, reaching 699mn shares and SAR 7bn in value traded.
Monday saw a decline in markets as Wall Street failed to maintain the gains made on Friday. The S&P 500 decreased by -1%, the Nasdaq Composite fell by -1.2%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by -0.9%.
European markets began the week on a positive note, benefiting from strong gains in Asia overnight and a rebound on Wall Street last Friday. However, as initial enthusiasm over robust U.S. employment data waned, European equities lost momentum. Rate-sensitive sectors such as real estate and utilities faced pressure from rising bond yields, leading to declines. The CAC 40 rose by 0.5%, the FTSE 100 climbed by 0.3%, the DAX decreased by -0.1%, and the Euro STOXX 600 increased by 0.2%.
In Asia, following the encouraging U.S. jobs report, markets surged sharply. Traders adjusted their expectations regarding potential interest rate cuts, and currencies held onto their gains. The Hang Seng Index and KOSPI both rose by 1.6%, while the NIKKEI 225 increased by 1.8%, reflecting a generally positive trend across the region.
