Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended mixed as strong corporate earnings and easing oil prices supported healthcare and financial stocks, while technology shares remained under pressure amid investor concerns over the financing and profitability of artificial-intelligence infrastructure. The rotation toward defensive and value-oriented sectors helped the Dow outperform, while weaker performance among major technology companies limited gains in the broader market. The S&P 500 gained 0.3%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 1.0%, and the NASDAQ declined 0.02%.

European equities ended lower as domestic unrest in France added to concerns over public finances and weighed on investor sentiment, while elevated oil prices and uncertainty surrounding AI-related investment continued to pressure industrial and technology-linked shares. Strong corporate earnings provided some support, but investors remained cautious about the regional economic outlook and the implications of French political instability. The FTSE 100 declined 0.3%, the DAX fell 0.1%, the CAC 40 lost 0.4%, and the EURO STOXX 600 eased 0.1%.

Asian markets are trading mixed as strong corporate earnings and a recovery in technology shares improve sentiment, although concerns over AI investment costs and elevated oil prices continue to weigh on parts of the region. Japan’s export growth, supported by semiconductor and AI-related demand, is providing an additional economic underpinning, while Hong Kong and mainland Chinese equities remain under pressure. The KOSPI is up 2.6% and the Nikkei 225 has gained 0.8%, while the Hang Seng has declined 0.4% and the SHCOMP has fallen 0.3%. These latest reported moves differ from the Asian index changes supplied, which appear to reflect the previous session.
