Daily Market Monitor 3-12-2024

Tadawul Review: 

Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Monday, losing 2 points (-0.02%) to close at 11,739 level. The index began 7 points higher than the previous close but saw fluctuations throughout the session, ultimately concluding lower. In general, 12 out of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, and 143 shares fell while 82 rose. Banks (-0.7%), Materials (-0.6%), and Media (-1.2%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (-1.5%), Maaden (-1.5%), and Sabic (-0.7%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed an increase in volume and value of 12% and 18%, respectively, to reach 352mn shares and SAR5.4bn in value traded.

 

 

Market Wrap International:  

The Nasdaq and S&P 500 set new record highs on Monday, launching the final month of 2024 on a strong note. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite climbed by 0.2% and 1%, respectively, while the Dow Jones Industrial saw a notable decline of -0.3%.

As the year’s final trading month began, European markets closed higher on Monday, with investors reflecting on the global economic and interest rate outlook. The DAX increased by 1.6%, the broader Euro STOXX 600 gained 0.7%, the FTSE 100 rose 0.3%, and the CAC 40 saw a slight uptick of 0.02%.

While Chinese markets led the way with gains on Monday, driven by encouraging business activity data, most Asian stock markets advanced. Still, overall progress was limited by concerns over the possibility of more tariffs from U.S. President-elect Donald Trump. The major Asian indices posted mixed results, with the KOSPI slipping by -0.1%, the SHCOMP rising by 1.1%, the NIKKEI 225 climbing 0.8%, and the Hang Seng advancing 0.7%.
