Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended lower as investors parsed rising Treasury yields and repositioned ahead of the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting, prompting rotation out of growth-oriented and defensive names into select cyclicals. That shift weighed on valuations in technology and growth sectors even as financials and industrials showed relative resilience. The NASDAQ slipped ‎‎-0.1%, the S&P 500 fell -0.3%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost -0.4%.

European equities ended modestly weaker as weakness in consumer facing names particularly following news around the spin-off of Unilever and pressure in staples and consumer-discretionary sectors offset gains in industrials and healthcare. Risk sentiment remained cautious ahead of U.S. policy developments, while corporate updates and demerger effects weighed on sentiment. The FTSE 100 slid -0.2%, the DAX edged up 0.1%, the CAC 40 eased -0.1%, and the EURO STOXX 600 fell -0.1%.

Asian markets are trading mixed, with sentiment hampered by global policy uncertainty even as some regional markets show selective strength. In Japan, the Nikkei 225 is modestly higher, while South Korea’s KOSPI is outperforming on demand for cyclicals. By contrast, China’s Shanghai Composite Index shows modest gains amid cautious flows, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index is under pressure from profit-taking and sector-specific headwinds. The SHCOMP is up about 0.5 %, KOSPI rose 1.3 %, Nikkei is up 0.2%, and Hang Seng is down   -1.2%.
