Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) rose on Thursday, gaining 25 points (+0.2%) to close at 12,103. The trading session began positively, with an increase of 11 points compared to the previous close. Even though diesel prices increased by 0.44%, the index stayed positive throughout the day and ended in the green. In general, 12 out of 21 sectors closed in the green zone, and 99 shares rose while 131 fell. Banks (+1.1%), Media (+1.8%), and Capital goods (+1.5%) sectors contributed the most to the index rise. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (+3.5%), Elm Co. (+3.7%), and Saudi Telecom (+0.9%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed an increase in volume and value by 20% and 67% respectively, to reach 287mn shares and SAR5.5bn in value traded.
Market Wrap International:
U.S. stocks ended Friday's session on a positive note, with the Consumer Goods, Technology, and Industrials sectors leading the gains. The NASDAQ advanced by 1.8%, the S&P 500 rose by 1.3%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 0.8%.
European markets ended the week in the red on Friday, following a shaky start to 2025 for global equities. Losses were particularly notable in the luxury and spirits sectors, as worries grew over economic data, potential policy shifts under Trump, and escalating trade tensions with China. The CAC 40 fell by -1.5%, the DAX dropped -0.6%, the Euro STOXX 600 fell -0.5%, and FTSE 100 declined -0.4%.
Asian stocks mostly gained on Friday, with South Korean shares leading the way, while Chinese stocks bounced back from earlier losses on hopes for new stimulus from the world’s second-largest economy. Key indices such as the KOSPI and Hang Seng saw gains of 1.8% and 0.7%, respectively. In contrast, the SHCOMP experienced a decline of -1.6% .
