Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Tuesday, dropping by 72 points (-0.6%) to close at 11,706. TASI started the session on a positive note, opening 12 points higher than the previous close, then fluctuated until the end of the session. Overall, 15 out of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, while 161 shares fell and 72 rose. Banks (-1.0%), Materials (-0.9%), and Food and beverages (-2.1%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (-1.6%), Maaden (-3.7%), and Almarai (-2.4%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed an increase in volume and value of 51% and 29%, respectively, to reach 264mn shares and SAR5.4bn in value traded.
Market Wrap International:
U.S. stocks extended gains for a third session on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 rising 0.2%, the Nasdaq climbing 0.5%, and the Dow Jones advancing 0.01%. The S&P 500’s Communication Services (+1.43%), Consumer Discretionary (+0.98%), and Financials (+0.49%) sectors led the rally as investors speculated that Trump’s tariffs might be less severe than expected.
European markets followed suit, closing higher as optimism grew over a potentially softer U.S. tariff approach ahead of the April 2 deadline. The CAC 40 advanced 1.1%, the Euro STOXX 600 climbed 0.7%, the FTSE 100 increased 0.3%, and the DAX gained 1.1%.
Asian markets fell as investors struggled to sustain Wall Street’s momentum, with concerns over U.S. trade policy lingering ahead of key inflation data. The Hang Seng dropped -2.3%, and the KOSPI finished lower by -0.6%.
