Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended lower in thin year-end trading as investors locked in profits after a strong December rally and positioned cautiously ahead of the New Year. Technology and growth shares led declines, while subdued volumes amplified moves across major benchmarks, with limited fresh macro catalysts during the holiday period. The S&P 500 declined -0.7%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell -0.6%, and the NASDAQ dropped -‎‎0.8%, reflecting broad-based weakness into the final session of the year.

European equities ended mostly lower in holiday-thinned trading, tracking Wall Street’s softer tone, while activity remained muted across the region. The DAX was closed for the session, leaving trading concentrated in other major markets, where defensives outperformed cyclicals amid low risk appetite. The FTSE 100 slipped -0.1%, the CAC 40 declined -0.2%, and the EURO STOXX 600 edged down -0.1%, as investors stayed cautious into year-end.

Asian markets are trading with limited activity as several major exchanges remained closed for holidays, keeping volumes light across the region. Japan’s Nikkei 225 and South Korea’s KOSPI were closed, while mainland Chinese equities posted modest gains amid subdued participation. The Shanghai Composite rose ‎‎0.09%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined -0.9%, weighed by persistent weakness in property and technology shares.
