Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended higher as investors positioned for the start of the third-quarter earnings season and upcoming inflation data, while elevated Treasury yields and oil prices continued to weigh on risk appetite. Technology shares supported the broader market, although telecommunications stocks remained under pressure amid concerns over competition from satellite-based mobile services. Major markets in Europe also advanced, supported by improved global sentiment and easing oil-price concerns, while French fiscal uncertainty continued to weigh on sentiment and telecommunications shares faced similar competitive pressures. Across Asia, the previous session delivered mixed performances as investors balanced improved global equity sentiment against persistent energy costs and concerns over technology valuations; Hong Kong shares advanced, Japan’s market edged lower, and mainland Chinese equities were little changed, while South Korea’s market remained closed for a public holiday.
