Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Monday, down by -139 points (-1.1%) to close at 12,657 levels. TASI started the session negatively, opening with losses of -69 points and continuing to decline gradually to close at its intraday low. In general, 12 of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, and 123 shares fell while 85 rose. Banks (-1.9%), Materials (-1.2%), and Energy (-1.1%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, Aramco (-1.1%), SNB (-1.4%), and Maaden (-2.7%) were the major contributors to the index’s fall. The trading activity witnessed a decline in volume by -2% to reach 335mn while the value increased by 25% to reach SAR8.2bn in value traded.
In the U.S., the S&P 500 began the holiday-shortened week with a -0.3% decline. with eight sectors experiencing losses, as the upcoming U.S. core personal consumption expenditure price index, the Fed's preferred inflation measure, is due Friday. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq composite saw a -0.3% decline , and the Dow Jones fell by -0.4%.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 index slightly advanced by 0.04%, while the FTSE 100 recorded a modest decline of -0.2% as investors processed the significant gains driven by the dovish stance of major central banks.
In Asia, Chinese stocks started the week on a downward trend as Beijing imposed regulations banning the use of American computing processors in China. The Hang Seng index fell by -0.2%, and the Shanghai Composite Index recorded a -0.7% loss. Japanese stock market indices witnessed negative performance, as the Nikkei 225 index dropped by -1.2% and the TOPIX index declined by 1.3%.
