Market Wrap International:

U.S. stocks surged on Tuesday in a broad-based rally, fueled by renewed optimism that trade tensions between Washington and Beijing may soon de-escalate. Investors shrugged off Monday’s steep losses, with easing concerns over President Trump’s tariff stance and his criticism of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell helping to stabilize sentiment. The S&P 500 saw notable gains in Financials (+3.28%), Consumer Discretionary (+3.23%), and Communication Services (+2.90%). The S&P 500 rose by 2.5%, NASDAQ gained by 2.7%, and Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced by 2.7%.

European shares closed modestly higher, buoyed by gains in financial stocks and a strong post-earnings performance from L’Oréal. The market overcame earlier volatility, helped by comments from ECB President Christine Lagarde suggesting disinflation in the eurozone is nearly complete. Sentiment, however, remained cautious following renewed criticism of Fed Chair Jerome Powell by U.S. President Donald Trump. The STOXX 600 edged up 0.3%, DAX advanced 0.4%, France’s CAC 40 posted gains of 0.6%, and FTSE 100 climbed 0.6%.

Asian markets were mixed as investors weighed ongoing tariff concerns and political tensions in the U.S., including President Trump’s threats toward Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Safe-haven demand lifted the yen and gold, signaling persistent caution. Japan’s Nikkei 225 slipped -0.2%, the KOSPI edged down -0.1%, while the Shanghai Composite rose 0.3% and Hang Seng gained 0.8%.
