Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) rose on Monday, gaining 18 points (+0.2%) to close at 11,830. The trading session began on a negative note with a 15-point decrease at the opening, then fluctuated, but started to settle down by the end of the session. In general, 7 out of 21 sectors closed in the green zone, and 78 shares rose while 151 fell. Banks (+1.0%), Real Estate (+0.9%), and Energy (+0.5%) sectors contributed the most to the index rise. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (+2.5%), Aramco (+0.5%), and Saudi Research (+2.9%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed a decrease in volume of -14% to reach 445mn shares, while the value rose by 30% to reach SAR5.5bn in value traded.
U.S. stock futures were mixed on Monday as investors looked ahead to important corporate earnings, especially from Nvidia (NASDAQ), after sharp losses on Wall Street the week before. The Nasdaq Composite advanced by 0.6%, while the S&P 500 climbed 0.4%. In contrast, the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped by -0.1%.
European markets were mixed, as investors shifted their focus to regional inflation data and Nvidia's earnings report set to be released this week. The FTSE 100 gained 0.6%, and the CAC 40 climbed by 0.1%. In contrast, both the DAX and the EURO STOXX 600 saw declines of -0.1%.
Japanese stocks closed down, led by declines in the Real Estate, Shipbuilding, and Financial Services sectors. The KOSPI and Hang Seng both posted gains, rising by 2.2% and 0.8%, respectively. In contrast, the NIKKEI 225 experienced a decline of -1.1%, while the SHCOMP fell by -0.2%.
