Despite this optimism, the S&P 500 fell by -0.5%, the Nasdaq Composite decreased by -1.3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.5%.

This was despite varied corporate earnings results, with shares of Standard Chartered climbing over 5% after the U.K. bank announced its largest-ever share buyback of $1.5 billion and upgraded its outlook in its half-year results.

Asian markets largely fell in subdued trading on Tuesday as investors awaited upcoming central bank meetings, with the Federal Reserve, Bank of England, and Bank of Japan all set to discuss monetary policy this week.
