The Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Tuesday’s session, falling by -54 points (-0.4%) to close at the 12,198 level. TASI began the session on a positive note, gaining 7 points initially, but started to decline gradually throughout the session to close at its intraday low. Overall, 13 out of 20 sectors closed in the red zone, while 132 shares fell and 93 rose. Banks (-1.0%), Materials (-0.5%), and Energy (-0.6%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (-1.8%), Aramco (-0.6%), and ACWA Power (-1.8%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed An increase in volume and value by +8% and +2%, respectively, to reach 434mn shares and SAR9.1bn in value traded.
In the U.S., the stock market ended on a negative note, with the S&P 500 down -0.1% while the Nasdaq composite up 0.1%. Traders were cautious ahead of Thursday's release of U.S. consumer price updates, which are expected to show core inflation falling below 4%. This kept the dollar rally in check as investors maintained their bets on multiple Federal Reserve rate cuts. The officials engaged in extensive debates about the upcoming shift in U.S. monetary policy.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 fell -0.2% on Tuesday as German industrial production unexpectedly fell in November, the federal statistics office said on Tuesday, marking the sixth monthly decline in a row. Meanwhile, the FTSE 100 index closed lower by -0.1%.
In Asia, stocks saw a rise on Tuesday, driven by a surge in regional technology shares and growing optimism surrounding artificial intelligence. Investors kept a close eye on upcoming inflation reports for further indications of potential interest rate cuts in the year ahead.
