Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Tuesday, dropping by -61 points (-0.6%) to close at 10,824. The index opened slightly above its previous close but quickly fell into the negative territory and stabilized throughout the session to close in the red zone. Overall, 17 out of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, while 199 shares fell and 52 rose. Banks (-0.5%), Materies (-0.9%), and Utilities (-3.2%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, ACWA Power (-4.1%), Al Rajhi Bank (-0.7%), and Riyadh Cables Group (-4.2%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed a decreased in volume and value of -45% and -4%, respectively, to reach 302mn shares and SAR4.4bn in value traded.
Market Wrap International:
Stocks dipped as traders eyed Wednesday’s Fed decision and trade talks with China stalled. Valuation worries added to the cautious mood. Bond yields fell and the dollar edged up. Underperforming sectors included industrials, which experienced a decline of -1.14%, consumer discretionary, with a decrease of -0.73%, and healthcare, which saw a reduction of -0.69%. The S&P 500 fell by -0.3%, NASDAQ dropped by -0.4%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a decrease of -0.5%.
European stocks closed higher, supported by gains in financials and defence. Strong Spanish data also helped.The CAC 40 rose by 0.7%, the Euro STOXX 600 gained by 0.3%, the DAX increased by 1.0%, and the FTSE 100 saw an uptick of 0.6%.
Asian markets ended mixed. Optimism around the US–EU trade deal gave some lift, while Japan dipped ahead of the BoJ’s policy decision. The KOSPI gained by 0.7% and the SHCOMP advanced by 0.3%, while the Hang Seng experienced a drop of -0.1% and the NIKKEI 225 posted a decrease of -0.8%.
