Daily Market Monitor 4-03-2025

Tadawul Review: 

Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) rose on Monday, ‎‎‎‎gaining 88 points (0.7%) to close at 12,124. The index started the day slightly above its previous closing level. After a slight dip into negative territory, the index quickly recovered and gradually increased throughout the end of the session. Overall, 13 out of 21 sectors ‎‎closed in the green zone, while 99 shares fell and 138 rose. Banks (2.4%), Energy (1.1%), and Real Estate (-1.9%) ‎‎sectors contributed the most to the index fall. ‎‎Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (2.6%), Aramco (1.1%), and Riyad Bank (4.9%) were the major contributors. The ‎‎trading activity witnessed an increase in volume of 28% ‎‎to reach 257mn shares, and the value increase by 78% to reach SAR6.1bn in value traded.

 

 

Market Wrap International:

The S&P 500 declined on Monday, extending February’s losses and turning negative for the year after President Donald Trump confirmed upcoming tariffs. Weak economic data and renewed trade tensions triggered Wall Street’s worst single-day drop of 2025. In the S&P 500, information technology led losses, falling -3.52%, followed closely by energy, which dropped -3.51%, while consumer discretionary declined -2.31%. The S&P 500 fell by    -1.8%, the Nasdaq declined by -2.6%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average retreated by -1.5%.

European markets closed higher on Monday as defense stocks rallied on rising expectations of increased military spending, while the euro gained after European leaders moved to draft a Ukraine peace plan. The CAC 40 rose by 1.1%, the DAX gained 2.6%, the Euro STOXX 600 advanced by 1.1%, and the FTSE 100 edged up by 0.7%.

Asia-Pacific markets largely advanced Monday as investors awaited further details on U.S. President Donald Trump’s planned tariffs on major trading partners. The Hang Seng gained by 0.3%, the Nikkei 225 advanced by 1.7%, and the TOPIX rose by 1.8%, while the SHCOMP declined by -0.1%.
