Tadawul Review:
Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Tuesday, dropping 22 points (-0.2%) to close at 11,583. The index opened 11 points above its previous closing level. Despite the positive opening, it sharply declined during the first hour before rebounding and gradually increased, yet still closed in the red zone. Overall, 14 out of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, while 154 shares fell and 85 rose. Materials (-1.0%), Banks (-0.3%), and Energy (-0.2%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, Maaden (-1.8%), Saudi National Bank (-1.1%), and Saudi Bahri (-3.6%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed a decrease in volume and value of -1% and -2% respectively, to reach 306mn shares and SAR6.1bn in value traded.
Market Wrap International:
U.S. stocks slipped as traders weighed fresh comments from Federal Reserve officials signaling patience on rate cuts amid persistent inflation concerns. Weakness in megacap tech names and a pullback in semiconductor shares pressured the broader market, while defensive sectors held firmer. The S&P 500 fell -0.4%, the Dow Jones lost -0.2%, and the Nasdaq declined -0.7%.
European equities were mixed, with minor gains in core indexes offset by a drag in healthcare and utilities. Energy and luxury stocks helped cap losses as oil prices stabilized, and consumer spending indicators improved modestly. The FTSE 100 rose 0.05%, the DAX added 0.03%, the CAC gained 0.04%, while the Euro Stoxx 600 slipped -0.2%.
Asian trading was subdued, with most markets closed for holidays. Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched up 0.01% as auto and chip names balanced caution in exporters. The SHCOMP, Kospi, and Hang Seng remained closed.
