Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Monday, decreasing by 9 points (-0.1%) to close at the 12,039 level. TASI opened 10 points higher than the previous closing level, then decreased during the first hours, gradually increased, and decreased again until the end of the session. Overall, 12 out of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, while 166 shares fell and 66 rose. Materials (-0.9%), Utilities (-1.9%), and Media (-3.4%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, ACWA Power (-2.2%), Saudi National Bank (-1.5%), and Maaden (-2.0%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed an increase in volume and value of 41% and 46%, respectively, to reach 647mn shares and SAR6.1bn in value traded.
Stocks pulled back on Monday as markets focused on the U.S. presidential election set for Tuesday and the Fed’s interest rate decision expected later in the week. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both fell by -0.3%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased by -0.6%.
European markets declined on Monday, pressured by losses in technology stocks that offset strength in banking and oil shares, as attention turned to the U.S. presidential election. The FTSE 100 edged up 0.1%, while the CAC 40 dropped -0.5%, the DAX fell -0.6%, and the broader Euro STOXX 600 declined -0.3%.
In Asia, the SHCOMP gained 1.2%, the KOSPI rose 1.8%, and the Hang Seng edged up 0.3%.
