Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) rose on Tuesday after heavy losses over the past three days, gaining +175 points (+1.5%) to close at 11,679 levels. The trading session began positively with a 39-point increase at the opening, but in the middle of the session, it reached its lowest point of the day before gradually rising again until the close. In general, 20 out of 21 sectors closed in the green zone, and 194 shares rose while 35 fell. Banks (+0.9%), Materials (+1.6%), and Utilities (+3.2%) sectors contributed the most to the index rise. Stockwise, Aramco (+1.5%), ACWA Power (+3.3%), and Al Rajhi Bank (+1.0%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed a decline in volume and value of -11% and -14%, respectively, to reach 404mn shares and SAR9.0bn in value traded.
S&P 500 futures saw a modest increase on Tuesday following a significant drop in the broad index, which experienced its worst day in almost two years as global markets declined. The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a 0.8% increase, reflecting renewed investor confidence. Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite increased by 1%.
European markets recovered as investors capitalized on lower stock prices. This followed a dramatic drop in equity indices, which faced their largest single-day losses since 2008 due to worries about a potential US recession and rising tensions in the Middle East. The FTSE 100 and DAX indices increased by 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively, while the CAC 40 decreased by -0.3%.
Japanese stocks surged, recovering some of the significant losses they had experienced the day before and contributing to a mixed rebound in global markets. The major Asian indices exhibited mixed performance, with the KOSPI advancing by 3.3%, the Nikkei 225 rising by 10.2%, and the Shanghai Composite increasing by 0.2%, while the Hang Seng fell by -0.3%.
