Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended mixed as investors digested the Fed’s 25 basis point rate cut alongside Chair Powell’s warning that future moves will be data-dependent. The cautious tone, combined with lingering inflation pressures and signs of labor market weakness, tempered optimism. Tech stocks retreated, led by Nvidia, while value and cyclical names outperformed, leaving the Dow Jones up 0.6%, the S&P 500 down -0.1%, and the Nasdaq off -0.3%.

European markets traded narrowly as investors balanced the Fed’s easing with regional headwinds. Higher energy costs and growth worries limited gains, underscoring fragile confidence in the recovery. The FTSE 100 and DAX edged up 0.1%, while the CAC dropped -0.4% and the Euro Stoxx 600 closed at -0.03%.

In Asia, sentiment split. The Hang Seng rallied 1.8% and the SHCOMP rose 0.4% as expectations of further Chinese policy support drew fresh inflows. By contrast, the Kospi fell -1.0% on weakness in chipmakers, and the Nikkei 225 slipped -0.2% as investors remained cautious on global demand.
