Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended lower as weakness in technology and semiconductor shares weighed on sentiment, with investors reassessing the sustainability of AI-driven growth ahead of major earnings and alongside elevated oil prices. Rising energy costs and ongoing policy uncertainty added to cautious positioning, while defensives provided only limited support against the broader pullback. The S&P 500 fell -0.5%, the NASDAQ declined -0.9%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped -‎‎0.1%.

European equities ended mixed to lower, reflecting the softer tone from Wall Street and continued sensitivity to global growth and energy price dynamics. Investor sentiment remained measured as markets balanced external pressures with selective support from defensive sectors, while cyclicals and industrials underperformed. The FTSE 100 rose 0.1%, while the DAX declined -0.3%, the CAC 40 fell -0.5%, and the EURO STOXX ‎‎600 slipped -0.4%.

Asian markets ended mixed, with regional sentiment influenced by the global technology weakness and cautious risk appetite, while local factors provided some divergence across markets. Export-oriented and semiconductor names remained under pressure in line with global peers, although selective strength in domestic sectors supported parts of the region. Japan’s Nikkei ‎‎225 fell -1.0% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declined -0.9%, while China’s SHCOMP slipped -0.2% and South Korea’s KOSPI gained 0.4%.
