Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities ended higher as major benchmarks extended gains into the holiday-shortened week, supported by strong economic data and broad strength in tech and cyclical sectors; the S&P ‎‎500 hit fresh record highs even as trading volumes remained light heading into Christmas. The S&P 500 rose 0.5%, the Dow Jones increased 0.2%, and the NASDAQ advanced 0.6%, with notable contributions from heavyweight tech names and solid reactions to robust U.S. third-quarter GDP figures. This marked continued upside alongside positive sentiment on earnings and rate-cut expectations.

European equities ended mostly higher albeit with mixed sector performance amid cautious positioning ahead of major U.S. data and light holiday trading. The FTSE 100 gained 0.2%, the DAX improved 0.2%, the CAC 40 declined 0.2%, and the EURO STOXX 600 rose 0.3%, reflecting resilience in financials and miners that helped offset weakness in specific consumer and tech segments, while broader markets remained near recent highs.

Asian markets ended mixed to slightly positive as regional stocks largely followed Wall Street’s latest momentum, though divergences persisted across markets. China’s SHCOMP increased 0.1% and South Korea’s KOSPI rose 0.3% on broad risk-on sentiment, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 slightly rose 0.02% amid profit-taking and currency impacts; Hong Kong’s Hang Seng edged down 0.1% with subdued sentiment as investors positioned for year-end holidays.
