Market Wrap International:

U.S. equities concluded the holiday-shortened week mixed as subdued liquidity and year-end positioning dominated trading. With no major macro releases or policy signals, investor focus remained on upcoming January inflation and labour data, while relative outperformance in industrials and financials contrasted with softer performance in technology shares.

European markets ended the week higher amid light trading volumes, supported by stable bond yields and easing energy prices. Year-end rebalancing flows underpinned selective gains across industrial and consumer sectors, while investor sentiment remained cautious in light of the European Central Bank’s continued emphasis on restrictive policy and inflation risks.

Asian markets advanced where trading was open, led by Hong Kong and South Korea, as improved global risk sentiment supported equities. Trading activity was reduced by New Year holidays in mainland China and Japan, while underlying concerns around China’s growth outlook and regional demand conditions remained present.
