Market Wrap International:

U.S. markets ended the week lower as investors booked profits from recent record highs, with sharp declines in technology names leading the pullback. Dell plunged nearly 9% and Nvidia slipped more than 3%, weighing on the sector, though softer inflation data maintained expectations of a Fed rate cut in September. By the close, the S&P 500 fell -0.6%, the Dow Jones -0.2%, and the Nasdaq -1.2%.

European markets also weakened, pressured by banking stocks amid renewed concerns over a potential windfall tax, even as U.K. business confidence reached its highest levels in over a decade. The FTSE 100 slipped -0.3%, the DAX -0.6%, the CAC -0.8%, and the Euro STOXX 600 -0.6%.

Asian markets showed mixed performance. Gains in Hong Kong and mainland China provided some support, but sentiment elsewhere was cautious following Wall Street’s retreat. The Shanghai Composite rose +0.4% and the Hang Seng +0.3%, while the Kospi and Nikkei 225 each closed -0.3%.
