Tadawul Review:
Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) fell on Sunday, breaking the 12,000 barrier, falling by -291 points (-2.4%) to close at the 11,754 levels. TASI began the session with significant losses, dropping by 242 points. Although it made a slight recovery during the day, it ended the session with a sharp decline. Overall, 21 out of 21 sectors closed in the red zone, while 223 shares fell and 10 rose. Banks (-3.0%), Materials (-2.5%), and Telecommunications (-3.0%) sectors contributed the most to the index fall. Stockwise, Al Rajhi Bank (-2.7%), Saudi National Bank (-3.9%), and Aramco (-1.3%) were the major contributors. The trading activity witnessed an increase in volume and value of -37% and 2%, respectively, to reach 323mn shares and SAR6.2bn in value traded.
U.S. stock indices showed varied results, based on average weekly changes. The S&P 500 fell by -0.7%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 0.53%, supported by gains in large-cap stocks. In contrast, the NASDAQ Composite dropped -2.05%, as technology stocks faced notable declines. Last week, US indices saw mixed results. The S&P 500 and Dow Jones both ended lower, with the S&P down -1.84% and the Dow off -1.51%. The NASDAQ experienced significant volatility, finishing with a -2.43% decline.
European market indices showed varied results. On an average weekly change, the UK's FTSE 100 gained 1%, while Germany's DAX and France's CAC fell by -1.2% and -1.6%, respectively. The EURO STOXX 600, covering a broader range of European companies, declined by -0.4%. This contrast indicates a stronger performance in the UK compared to broader regional weakness. Last week, European indices had mixed performances. The FTSE 100 edged up 0.1%, while the DAX dropped -2.3%. The CAC fell -1.6%, and the EURO STOXX 600 declined -2.7%, reflecting overall regional weakness.
Based on average weekly changes, Asian indices saw a slight decline, with both the Shanghai Composite and KOSPI each down by -0.1%. The Nikkei 225 fell by -1.9%, the TOPIX dropped -2.3%, and the Hang Seng Index decreased by -0.7%. This reflects a general downturn across the region amid ongoing economic concerns. Last week, Asian indices mostly declined, with the Shanghai Composite and KOSPI showing average drops, the Nikkei 225 experiencing significant volatility, and both the Hang Seng Index and TOPIX ending the week lower.
