Market Wrap International:

For the global equity markets, the markets are on edge as Middle East tensions escalate, with the U.S. crude hovering around $87 per barrel and being highly sensitive to the risk of a wider regional war. In the U.S., the S&P 500 ended on a positive note by +1.1%, with all of eleven listed sectors rising, and the Nasdaq Composite rose by +1.2%. Any escalation could trigger more shocks in the next few sessions, reigniting fears of both inflation and economic demand.

In Europe, stocks advanced on Monday as investors geared up for the upcoming earnings season. The Stoxx Europe 600 was up by +0.2%, with miners and energy stocks leading gains. In the UK, the FTSE-100 index closed up by +0.4%, and the country-level indices closed at +0.3%.

In Asia, the equities experienced a downturn as a sell-off in semiconductor stocks amplified negative sentiment, further compounded by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Chinese indices were negative (Shanghai Composite: -0.5%, Hang Seng: -1.0%). In Japan, the Topix and Nikkei 225 also performed negatively, mainly due to the impact on tech stocks, with a decrease of 1.5% and 2.0% respectively. Other country indices also moved downwards, ranging from -0.8% to -‎‎0.2%.
