Tadawul Review:
Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) closed almost unchanged at 11,256 levels on Monday amid fluctuation around its previous close. The index initially rose during the first trading hour, reaching its intraday high of 43 points before it began declining. The rest of the session was turbulent, with fluctuations in the index. In general, 10 out of 20 sectors closed in the red, while 109 stocks fell and 107 rose. Health care equipment and services (-1.0%), Materials (-0.2%), and Food and beverages (-0.8%) sectors contributed the most to the index's fall of -10 points. Stockwise, Maaden (-1.7%), ACWA Power (-1.4%), and Almarai (-1.7%) contributed most to the fall of the index. The trading activity witnessed an increase in volume and value by 13% and 12%, respectively, to reach 209mn shares and SAR5.6bn in value traded. The index is likely to show similar sideways moves in the next few sessions.
The global equity markets picked up from where they have left off last week and recorded another session of gains on Monday amid easing concerns on the U.S banking crisis, riple-off effects of the positive job report in the U.S and positive sentiments on the reforms in state owned enterprises in China. The key benchmarks in the U.S gave up most of intraday gains to close with little change. Communication (media entertainment) Financials and discretionary were the three major gainers on the S&P 500 Index.
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 Index recorded its third straight session of gains despite low volumes. The U.K market was closed for trading due to the national holiday. The other country level indices moved in divergent directions (CAC 40: +0.1, DAX: -0.05%). Healthcare and Financials were the two major gainers for the day.
In Asia, the major gauges in the region remained positive Barring indices in Japan (TOPIX: -0.2%, financials being the biggest drag) with investors overlooking concerns associated with the stress in the U.S mid-sized banks and announcement of new guidelines for state-owned enterprises for issuance of bonds. Shanghai Composite (+1.8%), Hang Seng (+1.2%) and Sensex (+1.2%) were the major gainers. Rest of the indices moved higher by +0.2-0.5%.
